HOW TO WRITE YOUR FIRST BOOK

GREETINGS!

Hi, welcome to my blog. I am much obliged to see you here.

Are you a new writer? Or have you recently wanted to write your own book, but do not know where to start? Worry not bestie, I got you covered.

In this blog, I would be talking about how to write your first book!

INTRODUCTION

Writing a book is not an easy task, but here on this website, writing is made simple.

Without wasting, your time ahead let's get started.

STEPS TO WRITE A BOOK

1. Pick a Genre:

· The first thing you need to do is to pick a genre

· It can be anything. A romance genre or thriller genre or comedy or self-help books etc.

· Once you chose the Genre the next step is to apply the triple M formula

2. The Triple M Formula:

· A triple M formula is nothing but making a mind map.

· Before you start writing, the first thing you need to do is to make a mind map.

· The mind map should be of the story you want to go forward within your book. Think about the audience you want to focus on. Think like them to make it relatable.

· Once you finalize the story you wish to move forward with; that is when we come on to the third step.

3. Story Outline:

· When the mind map is ready, the next step is to jot that map down on a piece of paper.

· You can go paperless by jotting them down on your tablet, mobile phone, laptop, or desktop (which I suggest the most because going paperless is the power move.)

· After jotting the story down, the next step is to go in-depth, by this I mean to go into the life of the characters. This takes me to the fourth step.

4. Research:

· Research is the only way by which you can anticipate whether the book would be good or not. Marketing is as well, but that section is to be discussed in the next blog post.

· Now researching your character is the key. What type of characters you want in your story, the background of the story, and everything related to that aspect should be covered here.

· Research can make or break your book.

5. Edit Your Outline:

· You have done your research, and now is the time to get to business with your outline.

· Do the necessary changes in your outline and then go with proofreading.

6. Proofread your outline:

· When the editing of the outline is done, focus on proofreading it. Try proofreading it repeatedly. If there is any room for improvement, do the changes if any.

7. Format Your Story:

· Formatting your story is a must.

· Format your story before you even start writing, to have an idea for where you want to go in your story.

· In this, you should include what you want to write in the first chapter then the second so on and so forth.

· In this, you can also include whether how you want the story to look like, is it going to be narrator based, or is it going to be based on character’s diary entry type book or any other preference that you choose.

8. Start Writing:

· The next step is to start writing.

· Do not worry about what you would write and how and all the related aspects, just go for it.

9. The Starting:

· When you start with chapter one, the one thing that comes to mind is what to write.

· I suggest going with what the story demands.

· For example, there are many authors, which start the book with the back-story of the characters and others start with the present while talking about the future or past.

· Always remember, there are no rules when you start to write a book. You go with your instincts and the story.

· However, I also understand that being a beginner it is tough to understand what the flow is or what the story demands. In that case, I suggest you stick to your outline of the story.

10. The Back story of Characters:

· The back-story of the character gives the reader an idea about the character.

· Make sure you make relatable characters and even if not relatable, make sure that the reader can put themselves in the shoes of the character. And that is why a back-story is important.

11. The Ending:

· You want to make sure the ending is not abrupt. That it is not too much. That the ending is perfect.

· The ending generally depends on what genre you are writing and again, what the story demands.

· Here are some ideas for how you can end the book in different genres.

                                                      i. ROMANCE NOVELS: You want to make sure that the reader is happy about the ending, may whatever it be.

    1. THRILLER AND MYSTERY NOVELS: You want to make sure that the reader is hooked until the end. You can even end the story abruptly here because maybe a sequel might come and even if not, the reader will question the ending, which would make them want to buy your next book.

    1. SELF HELP BOOKS: These books are generally life lessons sort of books. The ending or beginning does not matter as long as the book is easy to read and more than useful for the reader.

CONCLUSION:

You need to remember that this is your first book and it need not be perfect. It is completely okay if the first book sucks because it would. You are new to this field, you would learn eventually by experience and that’s the beauty of being a writer.

“A story written in a book is already well written” – My father said this to me when I wrote my first book. And trust me the book sucked. The book was not as good as it looked. I mean the content and book cover and all the necessities were perfect but I did not have sales because nobody knew me. And that is completely fine. Why would someone buy your book if nobody knows you? They will not.

The first thing to remember is that you should not stop writing even when the first book sucks, and even if there are no sales at all.

Once you write your first book, it may not flourish and that is why stay tuned for my next blog which talks about “WHAT TO DO AFTER YOU HAVE WRITTEN YOUR FIRST BOOK
